Galatasaray sporting director Levent Nazifoglu has confirmed that Arsenal full-back Mathieu Debuchy has been offered to the club.
Nazifoglu revealed that the French defender was offered to Galatasaray via his agent.
“Mathieu Debuchy was offered to Galatasaray through his agent on a loan deal,” Nazifoglu was quoted as saying by Turkish-football.com.
A source close to Galatasaray told Turkish-football.com that head coach Jan Rierkerink has urged the board to strengthen the full-back position after a string of poor performances from his current defensive unit over the pre-season. Debut and Newcastle United full-back Daryl Janmaat top his current shortlist.
Galatasaray struggled defensively last season conceding the most goals in the top eight – 49 – and the full-back positions have been identified as being one of the mains problems.
Debuchy does have another three-years remaining on his Arsenal contract but the Gunners did let him leave on a loan over the second half of last season to Bordeaux.
Arsenal are reported to have accepted Galatasaray’s loan bid for Debuchy and the Istanbul giants want a €3 million buyout clause option according to the Fanatik sports newspaper.
The Lions are also in talks with Liverpool over singing experienced midfielder Lucas Leiva.
