Turkish giants Galatasaray have reportedly made a formal offer to sign Manchester City’s decorated goalkeeper, Ederson, in a move that could signal a major shake-up at the Etihad Stadium.

According to reports from French publication L’Equipe, Galatasaray submitted a €3 million (£2.6m/$3.5m) bid for the Brazilian international. The Super Lig champions are looking for a long-term successor to their veteran goalkeeper, Fernando Muslera, and believe the 31-year-old Ederson is the ideal candidate.

While Manchester City has yet to respond, the initial figure is considered to be well below the Premier League club’s valuation for a player of Ederson’s stature and accomplishments.

An End of an Era?

Ederson has been a linchpin of City’s success since his arrival from Benfica in 2017 for a reported £35 million ($47m). He has amassed 372 appearances and an impressive 168 clean sheets, helping the club secure a remarkable list of honours, including six Premier League titles and the coveted UEFA Champions League.

However, as Pep Guardiola looks to refresh his squad, Ederson’s long tenure with the club may be drawing to a close. Galatasaray’s approach is the first concrete move in what is expected to be a competitive race for his signature.

Competition from Saudi Arabia

Galatasaray isn’t alone in their pursuit. Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad have also shown strong interest and are prepared to offer highly lucrative contracts to tempt the Brazilian to the Middle East.

However, Galatasaray may hold a crucial advantage. Sources suggest Ederson is receptive to their sporting project and the prospect of playing in the Champions League, which could influence his final decision.

City’s Successor Search

In anticipation of Ederson’s potential departure, Manchester City has already started assessing its options. Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen has been linked, though a potential surgery could keep him in Spain. Other names reportedly on the club’s radar include Porto’s Diogo Costa and Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.

For now, the ball remains in Manchester City’s court. While Galatasaray has made its intentions clear, it remains to be seen if they can meet City’s financial expectations for one of the world’s most accomplished goalkeepers.
