Galatasaray make late move for Tottenham forward Vincent Janssen

Galatasaray have made a late move for Tottenham forward Vincent Janssen a source close to the club revealed to Turkish-Football.com.

The Lions want the Spurs forward on a loan deal after failing to secure a striker over the winter transfer window.

The Istanbul giants made signing an additional striker a priority in January however, ended up mutually terminating their contract with Kolbeinn Sigþórsson and have yet to bring in a replacement.

Former Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski also faces an uncertain future with interest from China piling up.

Galatasaray want to bring in Janssen on a six-month loan however, a January transfer looks unlikely to go ahead.

Janssen’s agent Louis Laros told Turkish-Football.com that the Dutch striker will be staying at Tottenham until the end of the season and that Mauricio Pochettino has confidence in the 22-year-old.

“Janssen wants to stay at Tottenham until the end of the season and Pochettino has faith in him,” Laros said.

Janssen has just four goals and three assists for Spurs this season and has struggled for playing time.

The young striker’s current contract runs until summer 2020 but his form has raised question marks over his long term future at the club.

The 22-year-old has four goals for the Netherlands at international level and joined Tottenham amid high expectations after a brilliant season at AZ Alkmaar netting 32 times over the 2015-16 campaign.

Tottenham are already short on strikers and do not have a replacement ready for Janssen which makes the deal even more unlikely.

Galatasaray are currently third in the Turkish league, five points behind league leaders Besiktas.

The Lions may be short on strikers but it has not had much of an impact on their goal scoring form. Only reigning champions Besiktas have scored more goals this season than their 38.

Tottenham are also currently involved in the title race and are third in the Premier League table.
