Galatasaray have reignited transfer interest in the Arsenal forward Joel Campbell.

The Lions were repeatedly linked with a move for the Costa Rica international in the summer but were unable to agree with his club Arsenal.

Former Galatasaray president Ünal Aysal admitted that he wanted Campbell during the transfer window but failed to reach an agreement with Arsenal.

“Yes, I wanted him for our team but Arsene Wenger has said he wanted to keep him in the squad and benefit from having him this season,” Aysal said.

Campbell who stared in the 2014 World Cup was promised playing time by manager Arsene Wenger however, the 22-year-old has only featured in 39 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Galatasaray are on the hunt for a new striker as Goran Pandev has failed to impress and could be on his way out of the club in January.

Due to the financial situation at the club Galatasaray will be hoping to strike a loan deal with Arsenal for Campbell in January.

Campbell has made a total of five appearances for the Gunners this season.
