Turkish football giant Galatasaray appears poised to make a significant splash in the summer transfer window, with widespread reports indicating an agreement has been reached to bring experienced midfielder İlkay Gündoğan to Istanbul.

The potential move would mark a sensational start to the new season’s transfer dealings for the Süper Lig champions.

For years, Gündoğan has been a player frequently linked with Galatasaray, a desire shared by much of the club’s passionate fanbase.

After his departure from Barcelona, where he spent a single season, the 34-year-old unexpectedly rejoined Manchester City, leading many to believe a move to Turkey was off the cards.

However, a dramatic twist has reportedly unfolded. According to Turkish sports daily Fanatik, Galatasaray management hosted Gündoğan in Istanbul for transfer talks last night, culminating in a breakthrough agreement.

Barring any unforeseen last-minute complications, the club is expected to officially announce the signing of the German international imminently.

This high-profile acquisition comes as Galatasaray prepares for a transitional period, with long-serving stalwarts Dries Mertens and Fernando Muslera reportedly set to depart.

Gündoğan, known for his leadership and extensive experience at the highest level, is reportedly envisioned as a key figure to guide the team’s younger talents.

Sources suggest that Gündoğan, despite having a year remaining on his contract with Manchester City, is prepared to terminate his current deal to facilitate the move to Galatasaray.
