Galatasaray striker: Arsene Wenger build Arsenal ‘from nothing’

Galatasaray striker Lukas Podolski has revealed that he believes Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger built Arsenal ‘from nothing’.

The former Arsenal man praised Wenger following his testimonial for Germany.

Podolski called Wenger a good guy and a good coach and underlined that he still follows his former club closely.

“I follow nearly every match – when not live then on social media – and I don’t know what has happened,” Podolski told Sky Sports News HQ.

“Arsene Wenger is a good guy and a good coach. He built this club from nothing to now. It will be interesting what happens in the next few months.”

Wenger has come under fire from sections of the media and fans after failing to win the league title for a decade and bowing out of the Champions League at the Last 16 stage for seven consecutive seasons.

Podolski ended his Arsenal career in acrimonious circumstances, complaining about a lack of first team opportunities.

The German forward provided 17 assists and scored 31 times for Arsenal over the course of 82 games.

Podolski won just a single trophy at Arsenal, the 2013-14 Fa Cup.

The 31-year-old left Arsenal for Galatasaray where he has surpassed his goalscoring record at the London based club (32) in just 66 appearances.

The experienced striker has already lifted the Turkish Cup and Super Cup at Galatasaray.

Podolski will join Japanese outfit Vissel Kobe at the end of the season.
