Gary McAllister Praises Liverpool Star’s Mentality Despite Uncertainty Over Anfield Future

Former Liverpool midfielder Gary McAllister has given his take on the Emre Can contract situation.

Can has just a few months remaining on his current contract but has yet to sign an extension deal.

The midfielder of Turkish origin will be a free agent at the end of the season unless he reaches an agreement over new terms but has also been linked with a move to Italian giants Juventus.

The 24-year-old has yet to make a decision beyond the end of the season but is still in talks with Liverpool over the possibility of staying on.

McAllister praised Can for not letting the situation let him get distracted.

“Emre Can, throughout this period with all the speculation about his contract and not signing it, has not been disturbed mentally and his attitude and his performances on the pitch have been excellent,” McAllister told the Press Association Sport at an event to promote the LFC Foundation, Liverpool’s official charity.

“That is something the manager can see in training and is why he has no hesitation in playing him.

“I think we are well served across the middle of the park. We have a lot of very good players and we have Naby Keita coming in at the end of the season as well.

“It is like always: when good players become available who can make Liverpool better, I am sure the club will be looking.”

Can missed the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace over the weekend with a back problem.

The midfielder has however, been first-choice for head coach Jurgen Klopp when fit this season.

The 24-year-old is expected to recover in time for the Manchester City clash in the Champions League quarter-final first-leg tie mid-week.
