Gattuso Slams Calhanoglu For Not Diving Against Arsenal – ‘I Would Have Fell On The Ground’

0

Arsenal recorded a 2-0 win over AC Milan at the San Siro Stadium in the Europa League Last 16 first-leg tie.

Gennaro Gattuso was not pleased with his teams display after the game or the fact that Hakan Calhanoglu missed the opportunity to win a penalty.

Calhanoglu jumped over David Ospina when he clumsily ran out of goal and made a wreckless attempt to stop the Turkey international’s run.

Had the playmaker simply allowed himself to get clipped by Ospina it would have been a stonewall penalty and probably resulted in the keeper being sent off.

Instead Calhanoglu went out of his way to avoid contact.

The 24-year-old was praised for his honesty after the game but Gattuso was not pleased.

The AC Milan boss said he would have fell to the ground had he been in the same position.

Gattuso claimed Ospina made contract with his player.

“The possible penalty on Calhanoglu? I would have fell on the ground, he touched him. The contact was there, but it’s ok like this,” Calhanoglu said after the game.

The replays do not show Ospina making clear contact but only by virtue of Calhanoglu jumping out of the way.

It is easy to see how the AC Milan star could legally have won a penalty without being accused of diving.

To make matters worse the score was 0-0 at this time, the home side could have opened the scoring had a penalty been awarded.

Instead Arsenal went onto score twice in the first-half and win the game.
