Genoa ended up signing the Germany born forward of Turkish origin on a free transfer.
Gumus will join former Galatasaray duo Koray Gunter and Goran Pandev at the Italian side.
The 25-year-old forward was part of the Lions side that lifted the Super Lig title for the past two seasons.
The Germany U20 international has won three championships in total, three Turkish Cup trophies and two Turkish Super Cup titles.
Gumus joined Galatasaray from Stuttgart in 2014 where he went onto score 19 times and provide six assists in the league.
Galatasaray have lifted the league title for the past two successive seasons and will play Champions League group stage football next term.
Genoa meanwhile finished the league table in 17th place and avoided relegation due to having a better goal difference than Empoli.
