German midfielder does not regret joining Man United over Chelsea & reveals why Scholes is ‘one of the best players in history’

Once upon a time Markus Neumayr was a highly rated youngster on the books of Manchester United.

Many United fans probably won’t remember him but the German midfielder spent three-years at Old Trafford.

Things did not exactly work out as planned for Neumayr and he never quite lived up to his reputation.

The 31-year-old does not however, regret joining United over Chelsea and Barcelona.

Neumayr revealed to Anadolu Ajansi: “I had offers from Barcelona and Chelsea aged 16 but picked United, I have no regrets what so ever.

“I had a great time.”

Neumayr revealed that he forged a friendship with Gerard Pique that has lasted through the years.

“I was roommates with Pique, we are still friends, he will visit me in Istanbul,” he added.

The former United man also underlined that Paul Scholes was one of the best midfielders of all time.

“Scholes was one of the best players in history, to train with him and witness what he was capable of in training was breathtaking,” he said.

“He was the perfect midfielder, he always knew what to do before everyone else.

“Scholes is the type of player that makes everyone around him perform better as well.

“United still have not filled the void left by him after he retired.”

Scholes is regarded as a United legend, spending his entire career at the club.

The former England international won 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cup trophies and the Champions League twice during his time at Old Trafford.

Neumayr joined Super Lig outfit Kasimpasa this summer after spells in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
