Germany manager Joachim Low praised Liverpool for developing Emre Can into a versatile player and improving his game.
Can joined the Reds on a £9.75 million transfer from Bayer Leverkusen last summer as a central midfielder however, played predominantly as a defender in Brendan Rodgers back-three and as a full-back.
The 21-year-old has moved back into his preferred midfield role at Liverpool this season but Low decided to play Can as right-back on his international debut for Germany against Poland yesterday.
Germany won the Group D Euro 2016 qualification game 3-1 at Frankfurt and Can played the full 90 minutes.
“Emre had a good development at Liverpool and is a versatile player,” Low was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
“We like his presence on the pitch and his dynamism. Now we want to get to know him a bit better.”
