Germany international reveals reason behind Man City’s success

Germany international midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has revealed the reason behind Manchester City’s success this season.

The 26-year-old has established himself as a first-team regular in Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven this season.

Gundogan only recently came back from a long-term knee injury which kept him out of first-team football for over ten months.

The former Borussia Dortmund star played the full 90 minutes during Man City’s 5-1 win over Leicester City on Sunday.

City increased their lead at the top of the table to 16 points and could secure the Premier League title in April.

Gundogan believes City’s efficiency in front of goal is the key to the Citizen’s success this season.

“Everyone is capable of scoring a goal; we’ve become more efficient in front of the goal,” Gundogan told the German outlet Blick.

“He’s [Guardiola] been a top player himself, can think in our shoes, can handle different player types, has a clear philosophy on the pitch, and is always capable of turning the right screws.

“He wants attractive football to be played. Already when I was at Dortmund and he coached Bayern, I admired that. Wherever he worked, the overall atmosphere was good. And he improves young players.”

Man City take on Swiss side FC Basel in the UEFA Champion League tomorrow evening. Manager Pep Guardiola will also have one eye on the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal which takes place on February 25.
