Former Groningen CEO Hans Nijland regrets selling Crystal Palace striker Alexander Sorloth for just £405K in 2017.

FA Midtjylland signed Sorloth for just £405,000 after a poor season at the Dutch outfit scoring just four times in 29 appearances over the 2016-17 season.

Nijland was quoted by Fotospor as saying: “He was a talented striker.

“Now look at him in Turkey. Who would have thought? they are calling him ‘King of the North’ and now the same Groningen fans who didn’t rate him want him back.

“If only we had kept him”

Sorloth went onto score 15 times and provide nine assists in 30 appearances for the Danish side earning himself an £8.1m [Transfermarkt] move to Crystal Palace in summer 2018.

The Norway international was loaned to Trabzonspor on a two-year deal last August.

Palace could, however, end up regretting letting Sorloth go as they did not include a recall option and gave Trabzonspor a low buy option worth £5m [€6m].

Sorloth already has 25 goals and seven assists for Trabzonspor who could end up winning the double.

Trabzonspor could join Basaksehir on equal points at the top of the Super Lig table if they beat Malatyaspor tonight.

The Claret-Blues are also heading into the second-leg of the Turkish Cup semi-final after beating Fenerbahce 2-1 in the first game.
