“Happy that the fans are a support for me,” Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen glad to be at Fenerbahce after debut goal

Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen has hit the ground running at his new club.

The Netherlands international joined Turkish Super League giants Fenerbahce on transfer deadline day on a one-year loan deal.

Janssen was included in Aykut Kocaman’s starting lineup on Saturday and the 23-year-old repaid his manager’s faith in him instantly. The Netherlands international put his side ahead after just 16 minutes. Fener went on to register a 4-1 victory over Alanyaspor.

Following the game, Janssen told the Turkish outlet Hurriyet that he is delighted to be playing for Fenerbahce and thanked the fans for their support.

“It makes me happy that the fans are a support for me, I play for the club and for them, I want to be important for this team.” Janssen told the Hurriyet following the final whistle.

Conversely, the Dutch international took months to score his first goal for Tottenham. Janssen was under increasing pressure from fans following his long spells without scoring a goal.

Tottenham decided to sign Fernando Llorente on deadline day, which pushed Janssen further down the pecking order at the north London-based club.

Fenerbahce take on their Istanbul rivals Besiktas next weekend.
