‘He has blossomed in this position’ – Wenger reveals which Arsenal player has excelled in new 3-5-2 formation

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on Mesut Ozil following his sides victory over Stoke City.

The Gunners recorded a 4-1 win over the Potters on Saturday to keep their dreams of a top-four finish alive.

Mesut Ozil was one of the stars of the show after scoring Arsenal’s second goal. Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez scored the Gunners remaining goals.

The victory leaves Arsenal in fifth place, four points behind Liverpool with a game in hand.

Wenger believes the Gunners new 3-5-2 formation suits Mesut Ozil more than the previous 4-2-3-1.

“That is what you want from him,” Wenger told reporters after Arsenal’s win over Stoke.

“I think that he has blossomed in this position now and overall he enjoys it.

“I must say, individually when the confidence is high in the team, you see that all the players play well.”

Ozil has returned to form in recent weeks and has racked up 12 goals and 12 assists in 41 games.

The 28-year-old’s future at Arsenal does however remain in doubt. Ozil will have just 12 months remaining on his contract with the Gunners this summer.

Arsenal take on – an already relegated – Sunderland at the Emirates stadium next weekend.
