“He lets himself down” – Mark Lawrenson refuses to get excited about Arsenal star following recent form

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has stated that he is not getting carried away with the Mesut Ozil hype following his recent run of form.

The 29-year-old has been Arsenal’s star performer over the past two months and impressed once again during the Gunner’s 5-1 win over Everton.

Ozil also put pen-to-paper on a new three-and-a-half year contract with the north London based club.

Former footballer turned pundit Lawrenson, however, has stated that Ozil has flattered to deceive too many times in the past.

“We have to wait with Ozil,” Lawrenson stated live on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“He has done this on many occasions before and then he lets himself down – and us down.”

Ozil is expected to be back in action this weekend when Arsenal take on their bitter north London rivals Tottenham in the Premier League.

The Germany international has registered four goals and seven assists in 23 Premier League appearances this season.

Arsene Wenger’s side know a defeat over the weekend against Tottenham could leave their hopes of a top-four finish in tatters.
