“Held to ransom by a player” – Ex-Liverpool star slams Emre Can for contract saga

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has issued a reaction to the Emre Can contract saga.

The combative midfielder has been closely linked with a move away from the Merseyside based club after failing to put pen-to-paper on a new contract.

Can has entered the final four months of his deal and could end up leaving the Reds for free in the summer.

Italian giants Juventus have been closely linked with a move for Can in recent months. The Serie A champions reportedly send scouts to monitor the 24-year-old during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

Former Liverpool midfielder Hamann slammed Can for leaving the club which gave him the opportunity to develop.

Hamann went onto state that the club should not be held to ransom by an “ok” player

Despite the ensuing contract sage, Can has retained his place in Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven. The 24-year-old is expected to feature this weekend when Liverpool take on Southampton in the Premier League.
