Liverpool must do everything they can to keep Emre Can at the club according to Sky Sports pundit Danny Higginbotham.

The midfielder of Turkish origin is is out of contract at the end of the season and reportedly nearing a move to Juventus.

Premier League rivals Manchester United and Manchester City have also been linked but reprots keep emerging that the Italian giants have a pre-agreement in place.

RB Leipzig star Naby Keita is set to join in the summer but Higginbotham does not see him as a replacement for Can.

“I would still do everything I could to keep hold of Can,” he told The Debate.

“Because Can is a midfield player that can do the sitting role, he can do the box-to-box.

“He’s a fantastic player and I think Liverpool should be doing everything they can to keep hold of him.”

Despite being linked with an Anfield exit to Juventus, Can has denied having a deal in place and has not ruled out staying beyond the end of the season.

Can said: “I haven’t signed anything (with Juventus) or anyone. I am talking with everyone.

“Of course I am talking with Liverpool. Why not?

“I still have a contract here. It is an amazing club. What can I say? My agent does the rest.”

Can starred in the 4-3 victory over Manchester City last weekend, the first time the Citizens have been defeated in the league.

Despite being linked with a move Jurgen Klopp has continued to show faith in the midfielder.

The 24-year-old remains a first-choice player for the Reds.

Can has four goals and three assists in 27 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season.
