“His heart isn’t at Liverpool – Jurgen Klopp urged to drop star midfielder for Real Madrid clash by club legend

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has stated that he would not start Emre Can in the UEFA Champions League final this weekend.

The Reds take on Real Madrid at the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex on Saturday as they hope to lift the European trophy for the sixth time.

Can recently returned to first-team training after recovering from a back injury he picked up back in March. The Germany international travelled with the rest of the squad to Marbella and is available for selection this weekend.

However, Aldridge believes Can should not even be in the matchday squad.

“I’m not sure I want Emre Can in the squad for the Champions League final on Saturday because his heart isn’t at Liverpool,” Aldridge told the Liverpool Echo.

“It’s a tricky one for the manager. Do you use his experience now he’s fit or do you turn to people whose future is at the club?

“A lot of fans wouldn’t want Can on the bench. The club has had a custard pie from him and his agent.”

Can missed Liverpool’s victories over Manchester City and Real Madrid due to his injury. The 24-year-old is also expected to leave the club this summer after failing to put pen-to-paper on a new contract.

Italian giants Juventus have been closely linked with a move for the combative midfielder.
