Despite his success in top European leagues, Mourinho recognizes the challenges of managing a team in a new country.
Mourinho coined a new nickname for himself in his most recent press conference referring to himself as the ‘foreign one’.
“The passion, the love, the enthusiasm matches with my passion with football, totally. Then there are other things that are out of my control, [they] are cultural. It looks like it’s for me to adapt and not vice versa,” he said.
“I am the one that arrived, I am the foreign one. I’m not going to change the state of things. I need to adapt… I am not a magician, I am experienced.”
Mourinho’s comments came after Fenerbahce’s 2-2 draw with Goztepe. The Portuguese tactician expressed his disappointment with his team’s performance, criticizing their naive approach in the second half.
As Mourinho continues to settle into his new role at Fenerbahce, he will be hoping to guide the club to success and end their decade-long wait for a Super Lig title.
