‘I like the player’ – Newcastle boss confirms interest in Arsenal star, Super Lig giants still in talks

Arsenal striker Lucas Perez continues to be linked with a summer exit but has yet to strike a deal.

Newcastle United have become the latest club to confirm interest in the Spanish striker.

Magpies boss Rafa Benitez admitted he ‘likes’ Perez but did not divulge whether an offer has been been made.

“I like the player because I have good friends in A Coruña,” Benitez was quoted as saying by the Chronicle after the 2-0 win over Hellas Verona.

“I know that he did really well. He’s come here and not played in many games, but I like the player.”

Newcastle will face competition from Fenerbahce who are still in talks with Arsenal source close to the Istanbul giants revealed to Turkish-Football.

The Yellow Canaries have been in talks for over two months with Perez according to his agent.

“If Fenerbahce striker a deal with Arsenal, Lucas would be happy to wear the shirt,” Lovelle said.

“It all depends on Arsenal now but we could be happy to join Fenerbahce.”

“We have been in talks with Fenerbahce for two months but Arsene Wenger does not want a loan move.

“Wenger wants €15m (£13.4m) for Lucas.”

The problem Fenerbahce have been facing is that Arsenal are not keen on loaning Perez.

Instead the North London outfit want £13.4 million for the 29-year-old.
