“I simply felt fantastic” – £20m Man City star Ilkay Gundogan reacts to first game in 8 months
Germany international midfielder Ilkay Gundogan played his first game in eight months for Man City on Tuesday night.
The Citizens took on the Spanish side Girona yesterday. Gundogan replaced Phil Foden for the final 20 minutes of the game.
Gundogan has been sidelined for City since last December. The 26-year-old was present for City’s tour of the USA but did not feature in any pre-season friendly.
The Germany international took to social media after the game to express his delight at returning from injury. “Today I simply felt fantastic to be finally back in a football match after so many months!

“Even though the game and the result were not what we hoped for, it was really important for me to get touches, tackles and sprints in a competition.
“There are still many things I want to work on to improve my match fitness, so this game meant a lot to me in order to get back and better than I was before!”
Gundogan made the move to Man City for £20 million from Borussia Dortmund (BBC) last summer.
