Arsenal legend and football pundit Ian Wright stated that Mesut Özil is misunderstood by the majority of his critics.
Wright believes that the hard work Özil puts in is not appreciated because he does not track back enough.
Speaking on BT Sport ahead of the Dynamo Zagreb game Wright said: “It is not in Özil’s nature to track back and I think when you look at the amount of chances he does create it goes against him because they think he is not working hard enough.”
Arsenal suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Croatian giants Dynamo Zagreb in their opening Champions League group stage game.
Özil did not make a single tackle, interception or block against the Croatian giants and his passing accuracy was uncharacteristically poor (77.8%).
The World Cup winner made just a single key pass in what was ultimately a disappointing game for the playmaker.
The Gunners will take on Premier League champions Chelsea next in a rematch of the Community Shield which the North London based side won before the start of the 2015-16 league campaign.
