Italian giants plot move for Man United playmaker if Leicester reject move for Mahrez
AS Roma are plotting a move for Manchester United attacking midfielder Juan Mata according to reports in Italy.
Roma are planning ahead for the possibility that Leicester City reject their move for Riyad Mahrez.
Il Corriere dello Sport report that Mahrez is the first name on Roma’s shortlist but that Mata has been identified as an alternative.

The Serie A outfit are looking to replace Mohamed Salah who joined Liverpool earlier this summer.
Roma did sign 20-year-old Turkish international Cengiz Under on a €15 million move from Basaksehir.
Under is currently first-choice on the right flank but he will face competition if the likes of Mahrez end up being signed.
The Turkish international would probably fall behind Mahrez in the pecking order.
Mata however, is a playmaker and would not directly compete for a position with Under – although the rising star is versatile and can plan on the right, left and centrally.
Under made his debut about Tottenham in the International Championship Cup last month, scoring in the 2-1 friendly victory.
Its total nonesense that we are demanding €40m.
We ARE in fact demanding £50m ?
That is for Premier League teams, Liverpool already said they have 2 prices. £50m for Premier League Teams, £40m for Foreign Teams like ROMA!! Come on Monchi, bring Mahrez home to a better team!!
That may be a Liverpool policy.
It MOST DEFINITELY is not a Leicester policy.
He stays put until the valuation is met.
The owners will simply not allow it.
The Italian league is a shocker…
Leicester are ranked 16th in the world..Roma 18th.
The better club is therefore a moot point.
Its not going to happen!
Where are you seeing that? Leicester is no where close the team that Roma is. Sure they won the title but during a year when every other team had an off year. They are good but not 16th in the world!! Please show a source, I cant find 1 single list that has Leicester in the top 40 and none that have Leicester ahead of Roma

Those are the same list and not based on performance only value. Sure with the Premier Leagues insane TV deal they are more valuable.
My original comment was all about how cheapskate italian clubs are.
Hence financial valuation figures…performance is not comparable because of the different relative strengths of the leagues.
The value of a player is determined by the club he is signed to, not by prospective purchasing clubs. If Roma are so lacking in funds that they camnot afford the £50m then they should just withdraw gracefully.
Mahrez will not be sold unless the Foxes valuation is met.
That position was reiterated again by the club on Wednesday this week.
Not all leagues can be like the premier league. All other leagues are feeling the effects of the overpriced premier league. Everyone outside the top team or 2 in each league. I think we agree that Leicester isnt going to budge but Roma can afford him but Monchi is playing hard ball for some reason. I don’t understand the comically low first offer. But hes just trying to play the waiting game and hoping the relationship between Leicester and Mahrez would deteriorate because he wanted to leave. Doesn’t look like thats happening though
Understand that…the money in the Premier league is crazy, but it is what it is.
We aren’t about to budge on the price.
The Thai owners are pretty macho.
We are not a selling club.
If a player is unhappy and under contract…buyers have to meet the valuation.
Riyad signed the contract only one year ago..he has to knuckle down and play.
If any club comes in and pays the right price he can leave.

Not one shows Leicester ahead.
And a KPMG benchmarking.
