Jonjo Shelvey Channels David Beckham Scoring From Own Half

Jonjo Shelvey scored a memorable goal for Turkish club Caykur Rizespor on Sunday afternoon.

Shelvey scored a long-range goal from inside his own half in the fifth minute of the game to give Caykur Rizespor the lead against Istanbulspor.

Shelvey received the ball from Mithat Pala inside his own half and spotted that Istanbulspor goalkeeper David Raagaard Jensen was off his line.

He took a touch and then chipped the ball over the goalkeeper from inside his own half.

Shelvey’s goal was similar to goals scored by David Beckham for Manchester United in 1996 and Harry Kane for Bayern Munich in 2022.

Shelvey was loaned to Caykur Rizespor in September after struggling to get game time at Nottingham Forest.

He had only joined Forest in January after leaving Newcastle, where he had also struggled for game time.

Shelvey had hoped for a fresh start at Nottingham Forest, but he again struggled to get game time under manager Steve Cooper, making only eight appearances for the first team.

Shelvey was reportedly unhappy after being dropped from Forest’s squad for their match against Liverpool last season.

Forest manager Steve Cooper told Shelvey to stay at home for the match against Liverpool after being unimpressed with his attitude and performances in training.

However, Cooper later denied that there was any ill feeling between the pair.

Shelvey did not travel with Forest to their pre-season training camp in Spain earlier this summer, and he decided to play out the rest of the season with Turkish side Rizespor, who are currently 10th in the Super Lig.
