Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp responded to reports that the club have offered Emre Can a contract worth £200,000.
Klopp said that the Reds actually joked that £250,000 a-week was offered.
What the Liverpool boss did confirm was that talks are still ongoing with the midfielder of Turkish origin.
There is still hope that the 24-year-old will stay on at Anfield beyond the end of the season.
“”It was £250,000,” Klopp joked. “What is the situation at the moment? Open.
“Nothing is decided. We are in talks with him and it is all good so far apart from he hasn’t yet signed a contract for us.
“That is all, there is no problem with that.”
Can has just a few months remaining on his contract but has yet to sign an extension.
The midfielder will become a free agent unless he signs a new deal with the Premier League giants.
Earlier this week, Can hit out at “false stories” which claimed he is demanding more than £200,000-a-week to extend his stay at Anfield.

Can has been closely linked with a move to Juventus who have made no secret of their desire to sign him on a free transfer.
Despite reports in Italy claiming otherwise it appears that nothing has actually been confirmed in regards to Can’s future as of yet.
The midfielder may end up missing the weekend game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park due to a back problem.
Would you want Can to stay on at Liverpool after all?
