Liverpool have suffered a major injury blow ahead of the Merseyside derby.
According to the Mirror, star midfielder Emre Can has been ruled out for the weekend encounter. To make matters worse, Can could end up missing the rest of the season and the World Cup with a back injury.
Per the source, the Germany international’s back injury is worse than originally thought.
Can may have already played his last game for Liverpool with just three months remaining on his contract.
The news comes as a major blow to Jurgen Klopp who was hoping to field Can against Manchester City next week due to Jordan Henderson’s suspension.
Can has been closely linked with a move to Juventus in recent months.
Liverpool are back in action this weekend when they take on Everton in the Merseyside derby. The clash takes place at Goodison Park on Saturday while kick-off is scheduled for 14:30 (GMT).
