Schalke 04’s general manager Horst Heldt has denied reports stating that Gokhan Inler had signed for the Bundesliga Giants. The news was confirmed by the Germain tabloid newspaper Bild.
Reports emerged yesterday claiming that the Switzerland international has put pen-to-paper on a deal with Schalke after The Bundesliga outfit agreed a €7 million fee with Napoli.
However, Leicester City – who according to La Gazzetta dello Sport are in advanced negotiations with the player – are still in the race for the 31-year-old.
The Foxes’ newly appointed manager Claudio Ranieri revealed earlier this week that he was close to securing a replacement for Esteban Cambiasso.
Inler scored one goal in 33 appearances for Napoli in all competitions last season. The Switzerland international has also previously played for Udinese, Zurich and FC Basel.
Leicester pulled off the ‘great-escape’ last season to beat the drop. The foxes ended the season in 14th place with 41 points.
