Liverpool star left out Klopp but included Brendan Rodgers among managers that have had ‘greatest effect’
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been a firm defender of Emre Can this season.
Can and Klopp appear to get along fine to the average onlooker.
Klopp may have been surprised to find out that Can did not name him among the managers that have had the greatest effect on him.
The midfielder of Turkish origin did however, name former Reds head coach Brendan Rodgers.

Can told the Coach Mag: “I can’t pick one manager! It’s really difficult. I would say a lot of managers. Steffen Freund when I was in the youth team for the national team, he helped me a lot. Then when I became professional Jupp Heynckes at Bayern Munich helped me a lot. Then of course Brendan Rodgers because he brought me to Liverpool and I am very thankful for that.”
Then again he did not include his Bayer manager at the time. Perhaps we are reading too much into this and Can just forget to name Klopp or meant that every manager he has worked with has been important.
Rodgers did sign Can from Bayer Leverkusen so we understand why he was named.
It is however, a bit of a surprise that Can’s representatives allowed the interview to go to print in a manner that could be misconstrued. Especially with his current contract situation.
The 23-year-old has under 12 months remaining on his contract but has yet to sign an extension.
