Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes frank assessment of Emre Can’s Juventus move

Liverpool team news

Liverpool boss Emre Can has revealed his feelings towards Emre Can’s move to Serie A giants Juventus.

The 24-year-old joined Juve on a free transfer over the summer after his contract with the Merseyside based club expired.

Klopp has now revealed that his only regret regarding Can’s move to Juve was the failure to secure any financial gain for the club in return.

The German tactician even hoped that Can would sign a new contract even if he wanted to leave so that Liverpool would not lose him for free.

“I have no problem with a player leaving,” Klopp told the Liverpool Echo.

“The only problem I had for the club was that I wanted to get some money: ‘Sign a new contract and then we’ll sell you!’ But that wasn’t really realistic.”

“There was never a problem between Emre and I. Emre is 24 now. Playing in another country can be a life target: ‘I’ve spent four years in England, now I want to go somewhere else.’”

Can was a first-team regular in Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven for the past two seasons. The Germany international even made an appearance in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid last season.

The 24-year-old will now play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus. The Serie A champions kick-off their 2018/19 campaign against Chievo on Saturday.

Liverpool meanwhile will be hoping to register back-to-back wins when they face Crystal Palace next week.
