Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp urged to drop Jordan Henderson for Germany international midfielder, Danny Mills
Former England international Danny Mills has shared his views regarding Liverpool’s midfield set-up.
Mills believes club captain Jordan Henderson should be dropped to the bench and be replaced by Emre Can.
Henderson surprisingly found himself on the bench for Liverpool’s emphatic 7-0 win over Spartak Moscow last night.
The captaincy armband was instead warn by summer want-away Philippe Coutinho. The Brazil international went on to net his side a hat-trick.
Henderson is likely to start the weekend Merseyside derby against Everton after being rested.
However, Mills believes Liverpool are better off with Henderson on the bench.
“Liverpool’s front three, four, five, six, whatever you want to call it, are incredibly mobile,” Mills stated on Sky Sports, The Debate.
“They’re very fluid with their movement. And I just think Can offers a little more going forward than Jordan Henderson does.
“Yes, Jordan works very very hard and he gets around the field. But I think Can’s use of the ball is better.”
Liverpool can move up into third place with a win this weekend but a defeat or draw could see them drop out of the top-four.
Can’s long-term future at the club is still cast in doubt, the 23-year-old has under six months left on his contract. The Germany international could even end up leaving the club for free next summer.
