Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp praised Emre Can’s recent form following another impressive display on the weekend against Manchester City.

The Reds managed to keep their unbeaten record against teams in the top six intact after holding City to a 1-1 draw at the Etihad.

Can did not score or provide an assist but his pass did result in the goal winning penalty for the Reds.

Klopp was quoted by the Mirror as saying: “He was very aggressive, very clear in all challenges. He got one or two fouls, but much more on him. It was a good game.”

The German manager also revealed that Can suffered a dip in form because he has had an ongoing problem with his calf.

Klopp went onto state that Can has overcome his injury which has coincided with his recent improvement.

“We said it already he had this calf problem. Not a lot of players would have played. We had intense talks about whether we can leave him out. There were one or two games were we could do it, but now we can’t,” he added.

“We have these injury issues and that makes it difficult. But now it’s good so he can perform like he can today.”

Can has been called up to the Germany national team squad and could be in the team against England.

The central midfielder is one of two ethnic Turks called up to the latest Germany national team call up with the other being Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil.

Galatasaray striker Lukas Podolski will play his testimonial against England over the international break.

The Galatasaray striker will leave Turkey at the end of the season and join Japanese outfit Kobe.
