Liverpool have canceled sending club officials to Turkey for Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir due to the coronavirus outbreak according to the Hurriyet newspaper.

Per the source, the Reds were set to send officials to the Super Lig clash against Basaksehir over the weekend.

League leaders Trabzonspor took on Basaksehir who are tied on points separated by goal difference.

The Turkish Super Lig has not been suspended unlike most European leagues but games are being played behind closed doors.

The Trabzonspor game against Basaksehir did go ahead and ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Reds have been closely linked with the 23-year-old goalkeeper this season with Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu confirming interest.

Additionally, Leicester City head of recruitment Lee Congerton was quoted as saying that Liverpool have made a £22m offer for Cakir just over a week ago.

“He is one of the best goalkeepers [Cakir] I have seen in my life,” Congerton was quoted as saying by local Trabzon newspaper Karadeniz Gaztesi after watching the game alongside Trabzonspor assistant manager Eddie Newton.

Turkey has suspended flights from 14 countries entering the country until 17 April.

England is not on the list, however, the initial list was upgraded from nine countries to 14 countries and that number could grow further.
