Liverpool Have Not Given Up Hope Of Keeping Star Player At Anfield Next Season Says Manninger

Liverpool have not given up hope of keeping Emre Can at the club this summer according to former goalkeeper Alex Manninger.

The midfielder of Turkish origin has just a few months remaining on his current contract.

Can will be a free agent at the end of the season unless he signs a new deal.

The 24-year-old has been closely linked with a move to Juventus this season – another club Manninger has played for.

The former Juve and Liverpool keeper believes the Reds will do everything in their power to keep Can at the club.

“Liverpool will do everything to keep hold of Emre Can,” he told Il Bianconero.

“He is still young because he is just 24 years old. He always wants to win.”

Manninger also revealed he is quite fond of Can and that he is not surprised that European giants are lining up to sign him.

“His characteristics are attracting the biggest teams in Europe, but in my opinion if Juventus were to buy him they would be lucky because he is a top player,” he added.

Interestingly enough Liverpool could end up drawing Juventus in the Champions League quarter-finals as both sides have already qualified.

Can did recently deny that he has agreed a deal with Juventus – or any other club – and that his agent has blocked all talks until the end of the season.

The midfielder holds all the cards and will have several deals to pick from at the end of the current campaign.

Despite having an uncertain future at Liverpool Jurgen Klopp has started Can in his last 12 league games.

Can has scored a career-high six-goals in all competitions this season.
