Liverpool Legend Grobbelaar Makes Frank Assessment On Loris Karius Replacement Alisson Ahead Of Man City Clash

Liverpool legend Bruce Grobbelaar has made a frank assessment about Loris Karius’ replacement Alisson Becker in the lead up to the Manchester City clash in the Premier League on Sunday.

Alisson became the most expensive keeper in the world when the Reds signed him for £66.8m [BBC] over the summer.

The move relegated Karius into second-choice and played a role in the German keeper leaving for Besiktas on a two-year loan.

Grobbelaar revealed that Alisson has already proven his worth and saved the Merseyside based side points this season.

“Liverpool have bought Alisson for the amount of points he’s going to be saving at Liverpool this season,” he told CNN Sport.

“He saved us points on Saturday against Chelsea with his saves.

“He has proved his worth just in that game and look at where Chelsea are in the league. Kepa has been tremendous this season as well.”

Liverpool are unbeaten in the Premier League having won their first seven games in all competitions keeping a total of four clean sheets with Alisson starting all but one game this term.

Alisson is almost certain to start in goal against reigning champions City on Sunday.

Karius meanwhile had been in good form for Besiktas conceding just four goals in five games until conceding a calamitous goal in the Europa League Match Day 2 clash in Sweden against Malmo.

The replays showed that the cross actually took a deflection off Besiktas full-back Caner Erkin on its way into the back of the net but the damage was already done.

Karius has a reputation for conceding soft goals ever since the Champions League final against Real Madrid and he was consequently slammed after letting in his latest goal for the Black Eagles.

The Liverpool loanee will be hoping to get back on track when Besiktas take on Konyaspor away in the Super Lig on Sunday.
