“We are not going to have a final reply anytime soon,” Marotta told Premium Sport.

“He is a top player and many clubs want to sign him. He is available as a free agent. We’ve already made our move but his reply is not going to arrive anytime soon.”

The Reds still have time to lock Can down with a contract extension considering he has not agreed terms with another club.

The midfielder of Turkish origin has just a few months remaining on his current deal.

Unless he reaches an agreement over a new contract he will become a free agent this summer.

The 24-year-old is keeping his cards close to his chest and has not revealed his next move.

Can has the option of staying or joining a new club. Jurgen Klopp appears keen on the midfielder staying and has kept his on as a first-choice player despite uncertainty over his future.

The Germany international has been in impressive form this season, scoring a career high six goals.
