Liverpool set to lose race for Danish defender after Sevilla have €10m bid accepted

Fenerbahce centre-back Simon Kjaer continues to be linked with a summer exit according to reports in Turkey.

Sport claim that Fenerbahce have accepted a €10 million bid from Sevilla for Kjaer.

Per the source, the Yellow Canaries are satisfied with the offer but personal terms have yet to be agreed.

The report does claim that Sevilla may struggle to match Kjaer’s wages.

Spanish outlet AS also claim that the Denmark international is nearing a La Liga move.

Sevilla sporting director Oscar Arias did not however, give anything away when he was asked about efforts to sign Kjaer.

Arias was quoted as saying: “We have more names on the table, any negotiations can crystallize soon.”

The latest developments do not bode well for Liverpool’s efforts to sign the 28-year-old.

Kjaer has been holding out for a move from a club of the stature of Liverpool a source close to the player revealed to Turkish-Football. The centre-back has been scouted by the Reds but despite reports suggesting otherwise an official bid has not been received.

In fact his agent Mikkel Beck made it clear that they would only consider bids from clubs that deem to be European giants – although he did not delve into which sides fall into this category.

“He is happy in Turkey but if a very large European club makes an offer we will consider it,” Beck told La Voix Du Nord.

“Simon is a very ambitious player.”

Kjaer does have another two-years remaining on his contract and is one of the highest paid players in the squad.
