Liverpool Star Makes Germany National Team Call Despite Injury, Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil Also Makes The Cut

Liverpool star Emre Can has made the Germany national team call up despite picking up a back injury against Watford on Saturday.

The Reds went onto win the game 5-0 but Can could not complete the game leading to fears he would be removed from the Germany side.

Can has however, not been taken off the squad list and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp stated that he expects to see the midfielder with the Germany setup.

The 24-year-old could still feature in the games against Spain in Duesseldorf on March 23 and against Brazil in Berlin four days later.

“He doesn’t think, and I don’t think, it is too serious – but it was too serious to continue,” Klopp said in his press conference.

“He had that problem a little bit during the week; we gave him one day of extra recovery but he thought it would work and he trained normally yesterday.

“It is a muscle thing but it should not be that serious and he will go to the national team I think, and have their treatment.”

All three players are ethnic Turks and were not born with German citizenship.

Ozil, Can and Gundogan could also have played for Turkey at senior international level.

The Turkey national team side also has several players born in Germany who now represent them such as Everton striker Cenk Tosun, AC Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu and Borussia Dortmund defender Omer Toprak.
