Liverpool star Emre Can took took a well earned rest following Germany’s Euro 2016 semi-final exit at the hands of hosts France this summer by retuning to his family home in Afyon in Western Turkey.
Can was born into a Turkish family in Germany heralding from the town of Yeşilhisar in the Hocalar district of Afyon.
Afyon translates to Opium in English as the plant was and still is widely grown in the region. The 22-year-old has been in his families town for the past few days during which time he visited the major of Hocalar and took time out meeting friends and relatives.
Can is a popular figure in his parents home town and got a warm reception from local kids who could not wait to meet the Liverpool star.
Can is expected to return to England for his Liverpool pre-season at the end of his holiday.
The young midfielder was one of two ethnic Turks in the Germany national team setup at Euro 2016 with the other being Arsenal star Mesut Ozil who has roots in the Zonguldak region of Turkey.
