Liverpool star Emre Can was ‘best player on pitch’ against Man City says Robbie Savage

Liverpool beat Manchester City 3-0 at Anfield in the Premeir League yesterday just three days after losing the League Cup final to the Citizens.

Adam Lallana, James Milner and Firminho all got their name on the scoresheet and also managed to all provide an assist in the memorable victory.

Emre Can started for the Reds and despite not providing an assist or scoring football pundit Robbie Savage declared the 22-year-old to have been the best player over the 90 minutes.

Can has received mixed reviews over recent weeks but was back to his best against City putting in a stellar performance both defensively and going forwards.

The Germany international of Turkish origin made seven tackles – more than any other player – and four interceptions – highest in midfield.

Can also happened to make more successful dribbles going forwards than any other player (2) and played a major role in the Reds attacking moves over the course of the game.

The victory saw the Reds move into eight place on 41 points with a game in hand.

Liverpool could close the gap with fourth placed City to just three points if they win their extra game and if the Citizens lose their match in hand.
