Liverpool star losing race to be fit for UEFA Champions League Man City clash

Liverpool star midfielder Emre Can is losing the race to regain fitness ahead of the UEFA Champions League clash this week.

The first-leg quarter-final clash takes place on Wednesday night at Anfield with kick-off scheduled for 19:45 (GMT).

Can picked up a back injury while on international duty with the Germany national team.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Germany international is a major injury doubt. Per the source, Jurgen Klopp had hoped can would recover in time and train over the weekend, however, the 24-year-old is yet to restart light training.

The Echo goes onto state that Emre Can is losing the race against time to prove his fitness in time for the Champions League encounter.

Can played a starring role for Liverpool during their 4-3 victory over Manchester City back in January and will be a major blow for the Reds if he is sidelined.

However, Liverpool registered a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon without Emre Can’s presence.
