Liverpool team news: Captain out for three games, star striker injured but Emre Can ready ahead of Everton derby

Liverpool will be without team captain Jordan Henderson for the Merseyside derby against Everton.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp revealed that Henderson will be out for at least the next week as he continues to recover from a foot injury.

Klopp told his pre-derby press conference: “Jordan has unfortunately had a little setback, he’s not in team training up til now, that’s how it is.

“I can’t say in this moment how long – hopefully not too long. Yes I know when we were here last time I said I hoped he would be in training in this week but he wasn’t.

“So next week looks like this too, so we have to wait for this.”

With Henderson out Germany international of Turkish origin Emre Can is almost certain to start in central-midfield.

Can has started the last four games in midfield following injury to Henderson.

The 23-year-old scored his first goal of the year in the 2-1 victory over Burnley and starred in the 3-1 win over Arsenal as well as the 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad.

In other Liverpool team news striker Daniel Sturridge will also miss the 228th Merseyside derby according to the Echo.

If Liverpool avoid losing they will equal their best run of 13 league matches without losing against Everton, which was set in 1978.
