Liverpool team news: Jurgen Klopp delivers injury update ahead of Stoke City clash

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has issued an update regarding Dejan Lovren, Emre Can, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino’s injury statuses.

The Reds take on Stoke City tonight as they look to return to winning ways.

Klopp’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea on Sunday leaving them sixth in the Premier League.

Emre Can has started Liverpool’s last two games on the bench due to a muscle injury. The 23-year-old did however return to training on Monday.

Sadio Mane was also left out of Klopp’s starting lineup against Chelsea. The Senegal international is expected to start tonight. Dejan Lovren meanwhile is a major doubt with a back problem.

“We don’t ‘rest’. We use our players. [Rotation] was not the reason for the last game, it was more that we needed fresh legs. I thought it worked quite well,” Klopp told reporters at Melwood on Tuesday.

“We will make one or two changes for the next game.

“Dejan probably will be close. It’s not a big thing, a little swelling. He will try to run in a few minutes.

“Emre is back, it was not a big thing, but big enough. He will be in the squad, for sure.”

Emre Can’s future at Liverpool is still cast in doubt after failing to put pen-to-paper on a new contract.

The 23-year-old could end up leaving the club for free next summer unless a new deal is agreed.

Liverpool face another away trip this weekend when they take on Brighton in the Premier League.
