Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has set his sights on Hoffenheim star playmaker Kerem Demirbay.

Turkish-Football recently revealed that Liverpool scouts were monitoring the 25-year-old and that they were plotting a January bid.

Meanwhile, the Express has now revealed that Klopp has made the signing of Demirbay a top-priority in January.

Per the source, Demirbay is the ‘leading target’ for Klopp. The German tactician is well acquainted with Demirbay after watching him come up the youth ranks at Borussia Dortmund before moving to Hamburg.

Demirbay has established himself as a leading midfielder in the Bundesliga in recent years and was particularly impressive in the UEFA Champions League against Liverpool and Manchester City.

Liverpool fans will be hoping the Germany international can add some much-needed creativity to their midfield ranks. The Reds – who are unbeaten so far this season – are just two points behind league leaders Manchester City.

Reds legend Jamir Carragher has also urged his former side to sign a creative midfielder in January.

Demirbay has provided four assists and scored one goal in 13 appearances for Hoffenheim this season. Liverpool are back in action in the Premier League tonight when they take on Burnley FC at 19:45 (GMT) at the Turf More stadium.
