Liverpool Transfer News: Juve Chief Gives Emre Can Update, Accepts There May Be ‘Negative Response’

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can continues to face an uncertain future as his contract saga drags on.

Can will be a free agent at the end of the season unless he strikes an extension deal with the Reds.

The midfielder of Turish origin has had no shortage of interest, with Juventus showing keen on signing him.

Juventus chief Beppe Marotta gave an update on the latest sitaution regarding their efforts to sign the 24-year-old.

Marotta revealed that their transfer efforts are concentrated on Can and that he is a priority.

However, the Italian giants have yet to receive a response and he did accept there is the possiblity of a ‘negative response’ in which case they would focus efforts on an alternative.

“We are periodically pointed to as a club that buys players,” Marotta told Premium Sport.

“We have a squad suited to three tournaments and it meets our needs. We’re ready to take any opportunities, I won’t deny we are concentrated on Emre Can and awaiting his response. That is our primary objective.

“If there is a negative response, we’ll move our attention on to other players.”

Can did recently claim that he will only make a final decision over his future at the end of the season and that his agent has actually blocked all negotiations.

“Of course I have to think about my footballing future,” he said.

“I haven’t signed for any other club, I’m just focused on this season.

“We want to finish in second place in the Premier League, we’re in the Champions League quarter-finals and we want to progress.

“That’s all I’m focused on now. My agent has blocked all negotiations, I’m thinking only of football.”

Jurgen Klopp has continued to use Can as a first-choice midfielder despite uncertainty over his future.

The midfielder has scored a career high six goals this term.
