Liverpool vs Brighton: Probable Lineups – Star Forward A Doubt Heading Into Final Game, Emre Can Out Longer Than Expected

Emre Can

Liverpool take on Brighton in their final game of the season needing to avoid defeat in order to secure a place in the top-four.

A point could be enough for the Reds depending on how Chelsea fare against Newcastle United.

The Reds would of course be guaranteed Champions League football if they end up beating Real Madrid in the final but a top-four finish would wrap things up beforehand.

Jurgen Klopp has seen his side record just one victory in five games across all competitions.

The Reds are however, without a win in three matches in the league.

Mohamed Salah needs just one more goal to break the record for the most scored in a 38-game Premier League campaign.

Sadio Mane is a doubt heading into the game but Adam Lallana may just make a return.

Midfielder of Turkish origin Emre Can remains out on the sidelines.

On the face of it the visitors may have nothing to play for but Brighton-based newspaper The Argus point out, a win could see them earn almost £21m.

Chief sports reporter Andy Naylor explains: “Albion are playing for nearly £10 million at Liverpool today.

“That is the difference the result at Anfield could make to the Seagulls’ share of Premier League merit prize money – and boss Chris Hughton’s budget for next season.

“The cash increases by around £1.9 million for every position clubs finish higher up the table.

“Albion cannot end up lower than 15th, which would earn them £11.4 million.

“They could rise to as high as tenth, bumping up the financial boost to £20.9 million.”
