Why Liverpool Will Want Fenerbahce To Beat Portuguese Giants In The Champions League Playoffs

Liverpool have already booked a place in the Champions League group stage and finishing the Premier League campaign last season as runners-up.

The Reds will however, have one eye on the playoff rounds as it could determine which pot they are drawn from in the group stages.

One game, in particular, will determine whether Liverpool remain in pot 3 or not.

The Yellow Canaries beating Benfica would indirectly benefit the Reds.

Should Fenerbahce eliminate Benfica in the Third Round playoff tie, Liverpool would be drawn from the second pot.

The Super Lig outfit take on Benfica in Portugal on Tuesday 7 August with the return-leg scheduled for next week.

Fenerbahce have not booked a place in the Champions League group stage for 10 years.

Pot one is already confirmed, with only Liverpool or Benfica to complete pot two.

Pots three and four are yet to confirm but Inter Milan and Hoffenheim will be in pot four as automatic qualifiers.
