Liverpool star Emre Can celebrated the Turkish-German connection in the Germany national team on Instagram posing alongside Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil, Besiktas striker Mario Gomez and Galatasaray forward Lukas Podolski.
Can and Ozil were both born in Germany to Turkish parents while Podolski and Gomez play in Turkey.
The Reds midfielder shared a picture of all four posing with a caption including both the Germany and Turkey flags.
Gomez won the league title with Besiktas this season scoring a club-record – for a foreign player – 28 goals in all competitions.
Podolski meanwhile scored the winning goal in Galatasaray’s 1-0 victory over Fenerbahce in the Turkish Cup final.
Despite being of Turkish origin Can and Ozil have never played for a Turkish club – although Ozil is a self-confessed Fenerbahce fan.
Can originates from the Afyon region in Western Turkey while Ozil’s family are from the Zonguldak province in North-Western Turkey – he even has a street named after him.
