Germany beat Sweden 2-1 victory thanks to a last-gasp winner from Toni Kroose in the World Cup Group F Match Day 2 clash on Saturday.

Ozil was dropped by Germany boss Joachim Low after 26 consecutive starts in major tournaments.

It was the first time in his nine-year international career he did not start for Germany since making his debut.

Ozil came under fire from sections of the German media after they lost their opening World Cup game against Mexico.

There were fears that the playmaker of Turkish origin may not feature again in the tournament.

Low has however, made it clear that he still has plans for the Arsenal star.

“We have strong competition with us in the squad,” Low said.

“We will still need his creativity in the tournament.”

A number of former Germany national team players including Lohar Matthaus, Stefen Effenberg and Mario Basler singled the 29-year-old after the loss to Mexico.

“He’s over-rated as a footballer. I have to say it over and over again – he has the body language of a dead frog. It’s pathetic,” Basler stated live on TV, his words were applauded by the live audience.

The stats showed that Ozil was not as bad as was claimed. The Arsenal ace created four chances, 88 touches and 75 passes with 91 percent pass accuracy.

Germany will take on South Korea next in their final Group F game on Wednesday 27 June.
