Man City Star Broke Two Amazing Records In The Premier League After Chelsea Victory

Manchester City beat Chelsea 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday to take another giant step towards being crowned Premier League champions.

Ilkay Gundogan has established himself as a first-team regular as the season has progressed under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola.

The midfielder of Turkish origin showed exactly why Guardiola has shown such faith in him against the Blues.

Gundogan broke not one but two Premier League records against Chelsea.

The 27-year-old completed 167 passes, a record since stats were first kept in the league.

The midfielder broke fellow City star Yaya Toure’s record of 157 passes against Stoke City in 2011.

Gundogan not only shattered the record but did so against the reigning Premier League champions.

City also broke a record playing 902 successful passes during the game, the first top-tier side since the stats were first recorded in 2003 to make over 900 passes.

In fact, the Citizens were so dominant that left back Oleksandr Zinchenko is now fifth on the all-time leaderboard, completing 147 completed passes.

Gundogan was not finished there.

The Germany international went onto also have 181 touches on the ball, another Premier League record.

The Citizens have moved 18 points clear at the top of the league table.

City’s lead of 18 points is the biggest in the league since March 11th 2006, when the Blues were 18 clear of Manchester United.

Gundogan has four goals and seven assists in 36 appearances for City in all competitions this season.
